RNAi introduction

RNA interference (RNAi) is an effective reverse genetic technology, which could specifically degrade RNA or inhibit protein translation. In 2004, Academia Sinica represented Taiwan in the RNAi Consortium International Cooperation Program (The RNAi Consortium; TRC)organized by the Broad Institute of MIT/Harvard University and set up RNAi core in 2005 to maintain and distribute these reagents. By 2011, We had received 16,000 shRNAs for human and mice individually (10 shRNAs/gene) and the related knockdown information.

By the progress of technology, RNAi core has optimized the TRC RNAi reagents and has developed many resources and technical services related to gene manipulation, including miRNA, miRNA sponges, cDNA library, CRISPR/Cas, lentivirus & AAV production, and so on. These services could support and accelerate biomedical research and development in Taiwan.
